Tacoma, WA. – The staff that will be developing Sounders FC stars of tomorrow is assembled. Darren Sawatzky will be aided by a staff made up of professional playing and college coaching experience. Assistant coaches, Mike Jennings, Jason Prenovost, and Ben Dragavon have been hired for the 2012 PDL season.

Mike Jennings, the club’s original founder will stay on as the club’s technical director. In addition to his back room responsibilities, Jennings will continue on the coaching staff as an assistant coach. Mike carries a USSF “A” Coaching License and while coaching at the University of Puget Sound he earned NAIA National Coach of the Year in 1985.
Jason Prenovost joins the Sounders U-23 for his first year with the club. However, with nearly 20 years in coaching, it’s certainly not his first year teaching the beautiful game. Prenovost is an ODP/EDP coach for the state of Washington as well as the Highline Community College Head Coach. Jason has won seven NWAAC Divisional Championships with Highline C.C., making him the “All Time Winningest Coach” for men’s soccer in the league.
“Jason is someone I have known a long time and his coaching resume includes hardware in the trophy case as well as the respect of people in the community,” Head Coach Darren Sawatzky said. “I can’t think of a better person to work with the Sounders U23’s.”
The Sounders U-23 goalkeepers will be under the guidance of Ben Dragavon in 2012. Ben has multiple appearances in Major League Soccer under his belt including stints with the Seattle Sounders FC. Dragavon has also coached camps and youth soccer since 2002. He now serves as Western Washington University goalkeeper coach as well.
“We are fortunate to have Ben working with our keepers this year,” Darren Sawatzky said. “He is a good goalkeeper and a quality goalkeeper coach that brings the right mentality to the position.”

For the 2012 Season, the Sounders U-23 will partner with local youth clubs and showcase the team at various locations in the South Puget Sound. Home venues include Franklin Pierce High School and Cheney Stadium.
Cheney Stadium will host two matches for the 2012 calendar.
The first soccer game in the newly renovated Cheney Stadium will be played on May 30 with the Sounders U-23 matching up against the Vancouver Whitecaps. The second Cheney matchup will be against local PDL rivals, the Kitsap Pumas, on June 15.
