The objective of the black and white Bellingham United is straightforward, says club president Jeff McIntyre. “Our goal is to make Bellingham United FC a recognizable and respected part of the Whatcom County community for years to come. We want to provide local players the opportunity to play at a high level and further their careers while bringing a quality entertainment experience to area residents. And we aim to make our fans proud by consistently contending for championships.”
“Whatcom County has a great soccer scene, with great facilities such as Northwest Soccer Park, Orca Field at Whatcom Community College and the collegiate programs at Western Washington University,” says McIntyre. He and club co-founder Erin O’Brien own and operate Rufneck Scarves, makers of custom soccer scarves throughout North America.
Since its inception in February of 2011 Bellingham United FC has forged a relationship with WFC Rangers with the hope of the youth club’s top players eventually earning opportunities to play for the senior team. Beginning with the team’s first signing, Bellingham native Mason Webb, United have sought to stock their roster with proven players from the surrounding area. The team roster will be comprised of mostly local Whatcom County soccer players with a few regional and international representatives as well.
Another familiar name to the local soccer community Lance Calloway will lead the team as head coach. Lance also serves as executive director of the Whatcom County Sports Commission and Northwest Soccer Park.
“I can’t believe that it’s finally here and we will be kicking off the very first Bellingham United FC league match. It has been an exciting past 14 months planning the team with our ownership group and we’re excited for our players and fans to represent Bellingham and greater Whatcom County,” exclaimed Coach Calloway.
