Tukwila, WA – On Wednesday night, the Sounders Women will face their toughest opponent yet, Western Conference leaders; Pali Blues. These two teams are starting to pull away from the rest of the pack and with eight games left in the season so this game could determine who will take the Western Conference title. The match kicks off at 7:00pm from Starfire Stadium.

Sounders Women Press Release

In the Sounders last fixture, they impressed with a 4-0 victory on June 17th against the LA Strikers. With this great result and still only one goal scored against the Sounders, they will be heading into this tough match with momentum and confidence. Mexican National Team star, Veronica Perez, scored a hat-trick vs. L.A. to give her five goals in the 2012 W-League campaign, and eight goals from all competitions. Perez leads the team in goals. Currently, the Sounders have scored a total of 12 goals this season and have a record of 5-0-1 which puts them in second place in the Western Conference.

USA stars Hope Solo, Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, and Syndey Leroux will be available for the match tomorrow. Due to just returning from National Team training on Tuesday evening, whether these players will play is uncertain.

The Pali Blues have an impressive record of 7-0-0 with a total of 20 goals scored this season. The last victory for the Pali Blues was against the Colorado Rush on June 10 with a score of 3-0. With 10 days to recover from their last match, the Pali Blues should have fresh legs and be ready for their toughest match yet.

The young power house forward from Pepperdine University, Lynn Williams, is a player the Sounders need to watch out for. She has scored four goals, has two assists, and was named W-League Player of the Week for Week 5. Williams scored two of the eight goals against the Victoria Highlanders on June 6th and scored both goals for a crucial 2-1 victory against the Colorado Rapids on June 8th. Another key player is midfielder Nikki Washington who has scored 3 goals in 3 different games for the Pali Blues. She is a member of the U-23 U.S. National Team and is a graduate from UNC.
