The National Cup XI continued on June 23-26 with the busiest weekend of play to date, as a total of 52 teams claimed titles at the Northwest, Southeast, and West (Girls) Regionals.
US Club Soccer Press Release
The Northwest Regional was National Cup XI’s largest Regional event, crowning 27 champions and hosting the largest number of teams from a multitude of different states. Crossfire Premier won four championships, while Washington Premier, Eastside FC, Northwest Nationals and Vancouver United all earned two titles.
“We had some tough games against good local competition,” said Greg Lambert, coach of the Northwest Nationals Northwest Regional U-17 Girls Super Group champions. “The finals were a rematch of last year’s final versus our nearby rival Crossfire Premier, and we scored the game winner with just three minutes remaining in the second overtime period.”
“It’s a great accomplishment for the club to not only win the Regional, but represent the Northwest at Nationals Cup XI Finals in July,” said Rocky Guiterrez, coach of Eastside 97 Northwest Regional U-14 Girls Super Group champions. “The girls are very excited to return to National Cup Finals, as they were last year’s finalist at National Cup X and are looking forward to achieving or surpassing last year’s success.”
“We have enjoyed the National Cup,” said Lambert. “After winning the Regional event last year, we were very excited about the opportunity to advance to National Cup XI Finals. After enjoying the opportunity to compete at Nationals last year, we were hoping to advance to the finals this year.”
