The 2010 PDL National Champion Portland Timbers U-23′s played the 2011 PDL National Champion Kitsap Pumas in the 2012 Northwest Division playoffs on Sunday night in Gladstone, Oregon, and it was the Timbers who claimed a 2:1 victory that has ended the Kitsap season.
In the 3rd minute of play Mark Sherrod headed home a throw in to give Portland a quick lead. The Pumas bounced back with an equalizer from Ben Truax just five minutes later.
The Timbers were the aggressors for most of the first half but it was still 1:1 at the break.
Portland got the match-winner in the 69th minute when Roberto Farfan collected a loose ball and scored. The Pumas felt there was a handball on the play, and Kitsap defender Zack Sampson was yellow-carded for dissent.
The Pumas had a few moments on the attack to get level, but in the end couldn’t find a goal to keep their season alive.
As the final moments counted down Kitsap pumas head coach James Ritchie was ejected for arguing with the fourth (sideline) official.
