The STATE of Soccer in WASHINGTON
PASL Premier Arena Soccer is coming to Arlington, Washington this winter with the founding of a new club to play home matches at Soccer First Indoor Sports.
The new team will play in the Premier’s Northwest Division which last year included the Kitsap Pumas, Wenatchee Fire, Marysville Ruckus, South Sound Shock, WSA Rapids and Snohomish Skyhawks.
www.goalWA.net is helping to welcome the new club by hosting their “Name the Team” contest.
Name the Team Contest
Facility operator and club founder Phil Bartlow sets the guidelines for naming his new side. “I would like the name to be Soccer First ______ or Arlington _____. Fans can enter a new name as many times as they like, winner gets 4 free tickets. We need to have a name by mid-September so send suggestions now through September 10th.” The submitted names will be whittled down to a few and then from the 10th through the 15th fans can vote for their favorite right here on goalWA.net. Send your name suggestions to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ready to join
Barlow has toyed with the idea of putting together a PASL Premier side for several years. “The PASL premier league has been inviting me to put in a team since I bought Soccer First five years ago,” he says. “This year I had a lot of players come to me and ask me to put a team in. The customer is always right so I decided to finally do it.” Local player Andrew Escalante has been one of the biggest voices letting Bartlow know he’d like to be part of an arena squad. Escalante will also be using social media to hype the club after an official name is picked.
Here come the players
“We are starting open practices next Monday August 27th at 8pm and tryouts are scheduled for October 6th & 7th at 9am,” Bartlow reveals. ”We are just starting to look for sponsors, advertisers, uniforms, etc.” The community will be encouraged to open its arms to the new soccer venture. “I believe our capacity is 150-200,” Barlow says. ”I’d be very happy with that for a first-time franchise.”
The PASL Premier season typically runs from late Novermber through February. You can follow the birth of Arlington’s new club through the Soccer First Indoor Sports Facebook page.
The Arlington side may not be the last new PASL Premier club to come to Washington in the new season. There are rumors that the Northwest Division could have as many as nine clubs if a talked-about Seattle side enters along with a new club out of Tumwater.
