Husky Men go overtime again to top Memphis

(GoHuskies.com) BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the fourth time in six games this season, the Huskies played extra minutes. Nearing a second overtime period, senior Dylan Tucker-Gangnes scored the game-winner in the 99th minute to lift the No. 20 Huskies over Memphis, 1-0, at the UAB Tournament on Friday night.

The Bainbridge Island, Wash., native, Tucker-Gangnes headed in his team-high fifth goal of the season off of a long flip throw from junior Michael Harris (Shoreline, Wash.).

“Today was a great win for us,” said head coach Jamie Clark. “After the long trip we started slow and were lucky to end the half tied. As the game went on we started to get a better handle of the match. Dylan has been terrific for us all season. It was great that he was rewarded with another goal.”

Washington improved to 4-1-1 on the year and picked up its first win since Aug. 31 after going 0-1-1 in its last two games. It was also the first goal by the Huskies in close to 300 minutes of play. Memphis dropped to 1-3-1 on the season.

Defenses were solid on both ends of the field as only five total shots on goal were taken, four by the Huskies. Tucker-Gangnes had two shots on goal himself. Total shots were 8-7 with the advantage to Memphis but the Huskies had four shots in the overtime period while the Tigers didn’t get off a shot. Washington won the corner kicks, 3-2.

Junior goalkeeper Spencer Richey (Seattle, Wash.) made one save and posted his third shutout of the season. He has played all 575+ minutes for the Huskies in goal on the year.

Washington wraps up the road trip by facing the host UAB Blazers on Sunday at noon.
