KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest U. scored twice in the first half and once in the second as they shut out Oregon Tech, 3-0, in the Cascade Conference opener for both teams.

NU came out pressing right from the start and Jonathan Ellis got NU on the scoreboard at the 7:09 mark as he got his right foot on a pass from Ryan Gamache from 7 yards out. Taylor Young made it 2-0 with his unassisted goal in the 17th minute as he put one past the OIT goalkeeper from 12 yards out in the middle of the field.

Ryan Gamache got the lone goal in the second half with his header from 7 yards out as he took teammate Jonathan Ellis’ header for the score.

Northwest U. (3-1-1, 1-0 CCC) outshot Tech 25-10 as Loren Jessen had 6 saves in goal for Oregon Tech (0-3-1, 0-1 CCC). OIT was held without a shot on goal and Joe Galbraith and Jonny Wong combined for the shutout.

Said NU head coach, Gary McIntosh, following the game, “I’m really pleased on how we came out to start the game. We had a lot of energy and speed in our play and it paid off with an early goal. The team was disciplined defensively and they were rewarded with a shutout. Overall the guys were committed to what we wanted to do and it lead us to a 3-0 victory. “

Northwest will remain at home tomorrow as they play host to the College of Idaho and Oregon Tech will travel south to Olympia to take on Evergreen. Both are CCC contests.
