The STATE of Soccer in WASHINGTON

Husky goalkeeper Spencer Richey featured in UW Daily article

University of Washington starting goalkeeper Spencer Richey is featured in this recent article from the UW Daily.

Excerpt: “I definitely consider myself one of the leaders on the team,” Richey said. “Now, as a junior, there is more of a responsibility to help the young guys coming through and try to get them rolling as fast as you can.”

Fisk praised the leadership of Richey and other members of the UW’s back line after the team’s 2-0 shutout win over Seattle.

“To have those vocal guys at the back, especially guys who have been there and played in big games, it’s good, because you can trust what they say,” Fisk said.

Despite his personal success the past two years, Richey’s goals for this year are pretty simple. Last season the Huskies finished second in the Pac-12, falling twice to UCLA and once to Oregon State. Those losses left them on the outside of the NCAA championship picture, a spot the Huskies hope not to be in this year.
