The STATE of Soccer in WASHINGTON

UW Daily features Husky coach Gallimore

The University of Washington Women’s head soccer coach Lesle Gallimore is the subject of a feature in the UW Daily.

Excerpt: With the UW program now in its early 20s, Gallimore has become the Pac-12’s longest-tenured women’s soccer coach while taking the Huskies to the postseason 11 times, including two Elite Eight appearances. But most importantly, she’s become the likable but brutally honest mother to the UW women’s soccer family.

“She just says it like it is,” senior Faustine Dufka said. “But I think we’re all at the point where we can take it. At this point in our career, we want to hear what we can improve on and what we can correct as opposed to just more broad encouragement.”

After 19 years and counting under Gallimore, it’s no surprise the UW soccer family is a big one. What is surprising is how tight the program is. That doesn’t just apply to current players either; it applies to alumni too, no matter how far away they’ve traveled from the UW or how long ago they sported the purple and gold.
