LAGRANDE, Ore. – Northwest University’s junior goalkeeper, Joe Galbraith (bio) of Whitefish, Mont. was named Red Lion Player of the Week for men’s soccer in the Cascade Collegiate Conferense in defense after two more outstanding wins over Oregon Tech (2-1) on the road and a 1-0 shutout over Warner Pacific College at home on Saturday. This is the second week in a row for the award as Joe had 6 saves in the Oregon Tech game and 12 saves in the WPC game giving him 18 saves in the two games and 28 saves in the past three contests and five shutouts for the season.
Galbraith helped turn away 26 Warner Pacific shots to preserve the win and the shutout on Saturday.
Northwest U. Blanks Knights in Shootout
KIRKLAND, Wash. – After a combined 44 shots, Northwest University scored the lone goal to shut out Warner Pacific 1-0, today in Cascade Conference play this afternoon.
Warner Pacific totaled 26 shots and Northwest took 18 in the shootout which saw NU goalkeeper Joe Galbraith (Whitefish, Mont.) make 12 saves for the day and Drew Bonifacio of WPC making 6 saves.
Do-Hee Kim (Seoul, South Korea) scored the game winner as he took deflection off a great save by Bonifacio of Alex Taylor’s (Issaquah, Wash.) penalty kick at the 78:44 mark. After the ball came off Bonifacio’s hands, Kim put his right foot on the ball from 8 yards out on the right side for the score.
Galbraith made a key save of Almir Celebic’s blast from 20 yards out on the right side in the 85th minute to preserve the win and the shutout. Both teams missed scoring opportunities with solid plays by the defense, Bonifacio and Galbraith.
Northwest Gets By Oregon Tech
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A goal by Alex Taylor in the 85th minute would give Northwest University a 2-1 road victory over Oregon Tech tonight in Cascade Conference play. The win moves NU into sole possession of third place in the CCC with a 5-3 league record.
Josh Peters (Tacoma, Wash.) would give Northwest U. (7-4-1, 5-3 CCC) the 1-0 lead as he scored from 15 yards out at the 20:27 mark of the first half. Oregon Tech (0-10, 0-7 CCC) would tie the game in the 51st minute as Ashton Betts would score from 5 yards out.
Taylor would hit his unassisted 25 yarder and game winner through the OIT goalie at the 81:34 mark. Joe Galbraith (Whitefish, Mont.) had 6 saves in goal for Northwest U.
