It was about as big of a regular season high school soccer match as you’ll ever see as Skyline’s Spartans and Redmond’s Mustangs tangled in the pouring rain on Thursday night at Skyline. The Spartans and ‘Stangs were tied in their KingCo 4A division with perfect 8-0-0 records. Now, only the Spartans remain unbeaten in league after a soaking 2:0 win.
The Seattle Times looked at the KingCo race earlier this week. See their article here.
Skyline’s goals were scored by Amanda Johnston (assist to Lianna Simms) in the 18th minute and Izzy Marshall (assist to Makenzie Ware) in the 73rd.
Skyline improves to 9-0-0 (13-0-2 overall); Redmond falls 8-1-0 (10-4-1).

Bear Creek takes big win over Crosspoint to win Sea-Tac 2B league
(Report from Bear Creek) On a chilly overcast afternoon in Bremerton WA, The Bear Creek School’s girls’ varsity soccer program met league rivals Crosspoint Academy in a showdown for the Sea-Tac 2B league title. Bear creek was 6-0 coming into the match in league play, while Crosspoint who was 5-1, dropped their only league match to Bear Creek back on October 2nd. A win for Bear Creek would secure the league title and the #1 seed going into the Bi-district tournament. While a Crosspoint victory by more than 2 goals would give Crosspoint the League title and the #1 seed going into the District Tournament.
The game started with both teams working hard, possession seemed to go back and forth as both teams fought for that break that would put them ahead. 15 minutes in, Bear Creek thought they got that break, as freshmen midfielder Jill Leszynski was taken down in the box by a Crosspoint defender, which ultimately led to a PK. However, Bear Creek was not rewarded for their efforts, as freshmen Sara hasting raddled the PK off the post which kept the game tied for the remainder of the half.
Heading into the second half you could tell that both teams were desperate for that first goal. “There wasn’t a lot of clear cut chance for either team, other than our PK, it really was a battle for midfield” said head coach Brandon Gonzalez. “Both teams played solid defense, at half time I told my girls that the second half would be a battle and who ever wanted it more would go out and find a way to get it”. With about 10 minutes left in the game Bear Creek found their break. Freshmen connection play down the wing between Hannah Bienkowski and Jill Leszynski led up to Sara Hastings being given the opportunity to redeem herself from about 13 yards out from goal. This time she didn’t waist it, as the freshmen midfielder put Bear Creek on the board with just under 10 minutes to play. The goal would hold up as Bear Creek went on to win the match 1-0 as well as the Sea-Tac 2B league title. “Winning League is a great achievement for us, even though we won state last year we didn’t win our league title, so it was an exciting day for the girls.” Bear Creek is now 7-0 in league and 10-4 overall.
Bear Creek will finish up league play this coming Monday October 22nd against Mt. Rainier Lutheran, a game that even if Bear Creek lost would not affect their post season standing, and then finish up the year with one non-league game against Evergreen Lutheran to prepare them for the post-season.
