The 16-1 Pirates wer coming off of their only loss of the year, 3:0 at Moses Lake. “That (loss) just made us want to step up even more,” Davis player Teresa Salazar told the Yakima Herald, alluding to last Thursday’s 3-0 loss at Moses Lake. “We don’t want to lose again.
“We’re trying not to celebrate (this win) too much. We know we’ve got to keep our focus and move on to our next match.”
The Pirates will play Moses Lake again on Saturday with a spot at state on the line.

In Sammamish there was a huge upset as the Redmond Mustangs beat the Skyline Spartans 1:0 to claim the KingCo 4A championship. Read a Seattle Times match report here.
“We’ve gotten to state and we’ve had great teams, but this group just came together really well,” said Patrick Scheibe, in his 18th year as Redmond coach. The Mustangs snapped the Spartans’ 37-match unbeaten streak with a rare win on Skyline’s field. Redmond lost 2-0 at Skyline on Oct. 18.
“It’s kind of fun when you see the perfect storm of kids coming together and the right attitude,” said Scheibe. “It doesn’t discount all the great kids we’ve had in the program. It’s fun when you see it all come together. That’s what is rewarding.”
