COLBERT, Wash. - Northwest Christian High School near Spokane is on a soccer crusade this year, playing their way to the final four in state this week through the talents of Jacob Weaver and Austin Friedly. goalWA.net has featured Weaver several times in recent months, but his assist man has been more of a mystery.
So, it was nice to see the other day when Friedly was the focus of a news story by KHQ6 (see video below.) Weaver leads the state in goals (season record) and Friedly leads the state in assists (season record). While Weaver is an unassuming-looking player with deceptive touches and instincts, Friedly is a barrel-house figure that looks at first glance more like a gridiron star than a soccer one.
Both players will be in action this Friday in Sumner as the Northwest Christian Crusaders play Mount Vernon Christian for the right to go to the state finals in a 6 PM contest at Sunset Chev Stadium.
