The STATE of Soccer in WASHINGTON
TACOMA, Wash.- The Professional Arena Soccer League Tacoma Stars open their 2012-13 season on Saturday night November 17 at 7:35 PM with a home match against the visiting Turlock Express. The clubs play again on Sunday.
The Stars will look to a new venue and new head coach to see if they can catch the imagination of local soccer fans while winning more matches this year. Joey Waters (interview) is the new head coach of Tacoma while the Stars are playing their first season in the brand-new Pacific Sports Center (Facebook.)
Last season Tacoma won only three of sixteen matches, finishing well out of the playoff race. This year the Stars have seen a new league of teams spring up around them and the Tacoma side will face new clubs in Sacramento and Mexico. The Pacific Division features the steamrolling San Diego Sockers and a bunch of hopefuls: Tacoma, the Anaheim Bolts, Sacramento Surge, and the Turlock Express.
Outdoor soccer defender Mark Lee is scheduled to see much more time at forward for the Stars this season. Near the end of last year Lee (Puyallup) had several muliple-goal games. Ian Weinberg is back. Tacoma natives Micah Wenzel and Raphael Cox are also going to be counted on for goals.
The Express have already played their first match, a 10:6 loss to the Las Vegas Legends on November 9 in Turlock.
Stars tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for military and $6 for youth. They can be purchased online here or at the gate.
