The STATE of Soccer in WASHINGTON
TUKWILA, Wash. - The Peninsula College Pirates of Port Angeles have a little extra luggage to pack in the “Black Pearl” after the Women’s and Men’s soccer teams both survived close contests to emerge as champions of the NWAACC on Sunday November 18 at a rainy Starfire Sports Complex.

The Pirates Women went to penalty kicks before edging out the Spokane Sasquatch (see video below.) The Men got a goal from Alex Martinez in the 87th minute to nip the Walla Walla Warriors.
Pirates goalkeeper Guilherme Avelar recorded his second shutout in a row. On Saturday the Pirates beat Edmonds 2:0 on goals by Jake Forrester and Alex Martinez to reach Sunday’s title tilt.
Peninsula’s Men finished 23-1-1 on the season, winning the second NWAACC title for coach Andrew Chapman (the first came in 2010.)
Pirates goalie Danae Brooks stopped three of five free-kicks in the shoot-out to give the Pirates Women their victory.
Spokane scored in the 16th minute on a Gabby Kennedy penalty kick conversion. Then the Pirates of coach Kanyon Anderson scored in the 60th minute on a goal by Kendra Miner. Peninsula beat Everett Friday, 3-1, to reach their first final on goals by Briana Afoa (2) and Ashlyn Frizzelle. Peninsula finished 23-1 on the season.
The Pirates Women advanced to the 2011 title match before falling that year to Walla Walla.
