The STATE of Soccer in WASHINGTON
Metro Video Producer and goalWA.net have teamed up to bring you highlight videos from the 2012 NWAACC Men’s and Women’s Soccer Championship Final matches.
The Finals pitted Peninsula v. Spokane (Women) and Peninsula v. Walla Walla (Men).
TUKWILA, Wash. - Peninsula keeper Denae Brooks stood with her heels on the goal line, her Pirates up 3-2 in penalty kicks after a full 90 minutes and two sudden death overtimes. Spokane’s Alli Floyd approached the ball and sent into the waiting hands of Brooks, sealing Peninsula’s first ever women’s soccer title.
Evenly matched from start to finish, Spokane gained the advantage in the 16th minute. A Sasquatch player was taken down inside the 18 yard box, and the referee signaled for the early penalty kick. Gaby Kennedy stepped up to take the PK, and drilled the ball into the upper righthand corner to put Spokane on top. —Read the rest by John William Howard at NWAACC.org
TUKWILA, Wash. - Rain poured and wind whipped as the Peninsula and Walla Walla men battled for 90 minutes, with the Pirates coming out on top with a late goal to claim the 2012 NWAACC Soccer Championship, their second in three seasons.
The first half featured chances for both squads. Time and again, the defense stood up to the task, intercepting a feed at the last second, or heading away a corner back for a counterattack. In the 32nd minute, Walla Walla came close, with Johnathan Rodriguez’ free kick swinging into a scrum just in front of the Peninsula goal. The ball eventually connected with a Warrior head, but went over the crossbar for a goal kick. —Read the rest by John William Howard at NWAACC.org
