TACOMA, Wash. – On Friday, December 14, Sounders FC U-23 was awarded with the 2012 Progress Award by the Premier Developmental League. The award is the first club honor received by the organization under General Manager and Head Coach, Darren Sawatzky.
“The Progress Award is substantial for our club because it shows the hard work and dedication everyone put in this past year from the owners, the front office staff, the coaches, the operational crew, to the players,” said Sawatzky. “We are very thankful to be recognized for the work and look forward to a productive 2013 season.”
In the U-23’s debut season, the club earned a first-place finish with 36 points. The Western Conference Champions went 13-3-2 in the regular season and made it all the way to the National Semi-Finals before losing to eventual National Champions FC London. Individual accolades for the Sounders FC U-23 were highlighted by DeAndre Yedlin, who earned All-PDL 1st team.
Under mutual ownership with the Sounders FC U-23, the Sounders Women were also awarded the 2012 W-League Organization of the Year and Marketing Team of the Year Awards.
