North Sound SeaWolves FC name Ed Moore new head coach

Ed Moore 2EDMONDS, Wash.—The North Sound SeaWolves have named Seattle University assistant coach Ed Moore as the club’s new head coach.

Owner Alex Silva, who served as the team’s head coach the previous two seasons, will continue as an assistant coach while focusing more attention on other club business.

“There are a lot of good things developing with the team and I need to be able to direct all of those areas,” Silva said. “Ed has the energy and desire and he cares about player development. He’s coached at the college level for some time and this is a good time for him to take over as a head coach.”

Moore, 32, has served as Seattle U’s lead assistant for two seasons, coaching several SeaWolves players including Brady Ballew, Marshall Kosaka and Kevin Cook. This will be his first head coaching job.

“I’m truly thankful to Alex for giving me this opportunity,” Moore said. “I’ve spend eight years as a college assistant so I have experience with players at this level. I’ve had the good fortune of learning from a number of outstanding coaches along the way and I’m eager to work with and learn from Alex.”

Moore’s previous coaching stops included his alma matter, the University of Evansville, Duke and St. Mary’s College. He holds a United States Soccer Federation National Goalkeeping License and a USSF “A” Coaching License

Moore said his focus with the SeaWolves will be on player development and giving them an opportunity to further their soccer careers.

“This organization can provide a great stage to showcase and develop their skills,” Moore said. “They get to have a positive impact in the community and give back to the next generation of youth. That’s something I really want to be a part of.”

Moore was a four-year letter-winner as a goalkeeper for Evansville, winning the Spirit of the Aces award in 2001 and the Most Dedicated Player award in 2002. He received a degree in education from Evansville.

Though Moore was a part of the defense as a player, he said he expects his team to play a wide-open, attacking style as a head coach.

“In this league it’s important to play an attractive brand of soccer that the players enjoy,” he said. “We want them to showcase their skills and entertain the fans. Players have to feel that their being given the opportunity to develop and show their talents. So we’ll combined a possession-oriented attack with some defensive organization in a way that will lead to points.”

Moore and his wife Maureen, a former Seattle University soccer player, live in Eastlake.

The SeaWolves are a member of the Northwest Division of the Premier Development League, the highest level of amateur soccer in the United States. The Edmonds-based club begins its 14-game season on May 18 at Edmonds Stadium against the Portland Timbers U-23 team.
