TACOMA, Wash.— Jordan Jennings received a tip about a soccer club needing a goalkeeper. The next thing you know he’s making plans to leave for New South Wales, Australia to continue his soccer career.

Jordan has played locally for Tacoma Tide FC, Seattle University and the University of Washington. Most-notably he played for Seattle Sounders FC in an international friendly at CenturyLink Field back in 2010.

APWE_Info“This is all came about just from a friend who recommended I get in contact with some people down there,” Jennings tells goalWA.net.

Jordan will be joining the Albion Park White Eagles, founded in 1983. Albion Park is a suburb of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia.

“I’ll be playing on a team that is in one of the second division leagues,” says Jennings. “I did some investigating and ended up hearing some good things about the league and the situation. One club told me their current number one goalkeeper had just retired, and they were in the market for a new one. We talked further and ended up agreeing to a contract. It all happened quite fast and I will have to leave next week. Its very exciting.”

Australia is a giant continent with a literal maze of soccer leagues and federations.  Jennings hopes to use the move to explore and gain exposure.

“After I play a season I hope to make a name for myself and get some looks from some A-League clubs. This is a great start to me getting my foot in the door to some big opportunities down there, as I have already made a lot of contacts and have garnered a lot of interest. I will be down there for as long as it makes sense for me to further better myself playing-wise.”

The distance between here and there? From Tacoma, Albion Park is almost 8,000 miles way. For Jennings his career could be that far, and this close.

“I am really looking forward to this new chapter and will undoubtedly make the most of it,” he says.
