BREMERTON, Wash.— The Kitsap Pumas have made their first signing of the 2013 calendar year with the acquisition of midfielder / defender Alex Rodriguez who played last year in the PDL for the Ottawa Fury.
NEW: Quick Q & A with Rodriguez.
“Alex is a left back (that can also play left mid),” says Pumas head coach James Ritchie. “I have been chasing this lad since the start of 2012 and have heard nothing but good things about him. Last year he went to Ottawa and had a very good season with them. We are looking forward to seeing him in the hoops this year.”
Rodriguez has received many accolades during his soccer career both in college and semi-pro leagues. In 2012, Alex scored two game-winning goals in the playoffs for PDL Ottawa Fury S.C., who reached the Final 8.
In 2010, Alex was nominated as a Two-time NAIA All-American as a Defender with Belhaven University. In 2009, at Tyler Junior College, Alex was on a team that won the NJCAA National Championship with 21-0-0 record.
Rodriguez played 759 minutes for the Fury in 2012, notching three goals and two assists in that time. His biggest goal for Ottawa came in the playoffs during a 3:2 overtime victory in which his 106th-minute score held up as the match-winner.
