Alex Rodriguez is the newest player for the Kitsap Pumas. goalWA.net sent a few questions his way to learn more about the Bremerton-bound midfielder / defender.
How did you connect with the Pumas?
Well, I went to a combine in Alabama in 2011 where I performed over the top. Shortly after, the director of the combine actually connected me with James. I was going to go in for a trial but I received a few other offers that didn’t require me to keep flying out, so I ended up signing with Ottawa in Canada. It wasn’t until this winter that James contacted me again and we decided to close the deal.
What are your expectations for 2013 coming to Washington state?
For the 2013 season, I’m expecting nothing less than a Division championship, then move on from there. I know it’s challenging, but I also know whoever James recruits as well is up for the task.
Describe your skills and positional play.
I’ve played every position on the field throughout my collegiate, NPSL, and PDL career. Went from winning a national championship at Tyler Junior College as a defensive midfielder, to being a two-time All American defender at Belhaven University as left and center back, to winning a Division Championship with Ottawa as center forward and winger. I’m both left and right footed. And I can play any position on the field with high confidence.
Summarize your career so far. How did last season go in Ottawa?
Well I’ve had quite a career so far including Collegiate, NPSL and PDL teams. Many of my highlights are somewhere up there. Well the important ones at the least. The season in Ottawa was great, we won our division, stepped up in playoffs and scored a couple of winning goals. One to win our division at 1-0 and another to move on in playoffs winning 3-2. Now, heading to the Pumas, going back to defense and going to try and help anchor a defense that will hopefully win the Northwest Division.
