SAN DIEGO, CA.— The South Sound Shock are still undefeated on the season after they won 7:2 and drew 2:2 in Sunday’s opening of the PASL Premier National Championships at the Valley View Casino Center (traditionally called the San Diego Sports Arena.) The Shock are seeded 3rd heading into Monday’s final day of the tournament and will play their first match at 10:30 AM. See Sunday’s results and Monday’s schedule below. The info. includes PASL Pro results, being held in the same arena.
“We arrived first to the arena, before the refs, tournament staff or anyone else and we came with a focused mindset,” Shock Manager John Crouch tells goalWA.net via email. “We have played all season long trying to develop better work ethics and more discipline and we intend to carry that all the way to the end. The mindset has been to take care of every detail the right way all weekend whether it be preparation play or taking care of ourselves after we play.”
“We played Las Vegas Knights first, the semi pro support team to the Professional Las Vegas Legends. We scored first against the Knights but only led by one at the half, we were committed to scoring first in the second half and going on a run and that we did to finish the game with a 7:2 win. Shock goals to Derek Johnson 4, Taylor Jackson 1, Nate Ford 1, Lukas Rydberg 1. “Big time saves from Aaron Aaron Anderson kept them from getting any real chances through the run of play,” Crouch says.
“In our second game we faced Bladium Rosal. Rodal scored first through the run of play but we answered quickly with a set piece goal passed by Byron Conforti perfectly for Lukas Rydberg to drill a low shot right inside the post. We went into the second half 1:1 and they scored late in the 4th quarter to go up 2:1 with 52 seconds left. We made some adjustments to get the goal back with about 25 seconds left in the game. We ended in a tie.”
The Shock earned the 3rd seed behind the Detroit Waza Flo premier in first and Colorado Blizzard in second. They hold onto their undefeated season with twelve straight games without a loss and go into tomorrow in a loser out situation.
Crouch says, “It looks like we will face the Las Vegas Knights again as we believe they got the 6th seed.”
