The STATE of Soccer in WASHINGTON
Gig Harbor’s (Peninsula High School) Chris Brundage was a central figure in two Sounders U-23 shutout victories over the weekend. The team won 1:0 on both Friday (Washington Crossfire) and Sunday (Whitecaps U-23′s) to jump up to fourth place in the Northwest Division. Chris started both matches and played all 90-plus minutes in each.

“Chris is an under-rated central back,” Sounders U-23 head coach Darren Sawatzky says. ”He is an invaluable piece of our group right now.”
Chris was the Great Northwest Athletic Conference co-Freshman of the Year in his first season at Western Washington, where he was also First-Team GNAC All-Conference. Brundage transferred to the University of Washington his sophomore season and was a senior during the Huskies’ run in last years’ NCAA playoffs.
“Chris was a stalwart for us last year on the backline and we expect the same level out of him this spring. His leadership as he comes out of college will also help with the young players in our development structure,” Sawatzky noted in the pre-season.
