The STATE of Soccer in WASHINGTON
EDMONDS, WA — Washington Crossfire scored a 2:1 win over the North Sound SeaWolves on Friday night at Edmonds Stadium. The win keeps the slim hopes for Washington alive in the PDL Northwest playoff race.

Crossfire now stands at 15 points, three behind the Vancouver Whitecaps U23, who currently hold the third and final playoff spot. Crossfire beat the Caps 2:0 earlier this year. Now they travel to BC this Sunday July 14 for a final meeting. A Crossfire win on Sunday would put them in a tie with Vancouver. The Redmond club would still need help, though. The Whitecaps U23′s have a final match next week at North Sound. Meanwhile, the Sounders U23′s have 15 points and two matches left: at Kitsap tonight, and at Portland next week.
Last night the Whitecaps U23′s drew 1:1 with the Timbers U23′s. That result officially eliminated the Kitsap Pumas from playoff contention. The Pumas will try to salvage their season tonight by winning the Ruffneck Cup for bragging rights among Puget Sound clubs.
In Friday’s match at Edmonds Stadium Andy Thoma gave Crossfire a 23rd-minute lead. Brady Ballew came through again for the SeaWolves just before halftime, scoring on an assist from Daniel Van Vleet. The Washington winner came in the 68th minute from Matthew Poplawksi.
