WENATCHEE, WA — The Wenatchee Fire arrived in Bellingham last Saturday night knowing they would need something special to beat the WSA Rapids at the Sportsplex. Last year when the Fire rolled into town they left with a wild 14:9 loss.
This time around Wenatchee got the difference-making performance they were hoping for. Adrian Espinoza scored four goals and the Fire edged the Rapids 9:8. Espinoza’s performance earns him the first goalWA.net PASL NW Player of the Week award.
“Our keeper Tristen Ryles had a good night too, and some amazing saves, but I think it was Adrian’s night,” says Fire assistant coach Javier Reyna. “Adrian can kick the ball with both legs but his left is deadly and most of his shots were on target. You could say he was on fire.“
Espinoza notched his first tally when the Fire were up a man. “The first goal was on power play and I shot from behind the arc,” Adrian tells goalWA.net.
“The second goal was off of a pass from Mike Avey off the wall, and I put it in back of the net.”
Espinoza went longer-range for his third goal. “I took a guy on and shot from outside the arc and hit top left corner.”
The final of his four came with a move towards the end boards. “I took a guy on down the line and shot with my right foot back post.”
The Fire and Espinoza will try to stay hot when they host the Kitsap Pumas at the Wenatchee Valley Sportsplex at 7 PM on December 7th.
