The Premier Arena Soccer League Northwest got back into action on Saturday with a series of matches going forward despite frigid temperatures and the departure of a team from the competition. The Central Oregon Steelheaders are out of the league, cancelling two matches scheduled for the day. Instead, the two clubs scheduled to play them played each other in an exhibition. See the scores below. Details will be posted as they become available.

Tacoma Galaxy-4 South Sound Shock-1 (Exhibition scheduled after Steelheaders dropped out)

Kitsap Pumas-6 Wenatchee Fire-4

Edgar Gomez scored three goals and dished out two assists as the Pumas held off the Fire in Wenatchee.

Arlington Aviators-8 Snohomish Skyhawks-2

(Aviators report) The final score doesn’t really reflect how close the game was, we scored two goals in the last minute to make it look worse than it was.

After almost 7 minutes of the teams getting to know each other, Dana Garner (unassisted) got us on the board with 5:07 remaining. Two minutes later Kyle Christianson (Devin Mendiola) doubled our lead and with 38 seconds left in the first period Jeff Hidalgo (unassisted) gave us a 3-0 lead. About 2:30 into the 2nd period Snohomish got on the board on a goal by Davis S (Jay Kendall) and the half ended 3-1. 4:26 into the 3rd we got a goal by Solomon Gold (unassisted) and a minute later a Snohomish own goal (credited to our Russ Brown) made it 5-1 after 3 periods. Snohomish tightened things up at 5-2 5:30 into the 4th with a goal from Armind Makolli (unassisted) but we scored on a nice little give and go on the ensuing kickoff when Dana Garner played a great ball back to a cutting Corey Hendrickson to make it 6-2 with 9:00 to go. A lot of chances at both ends for the next few minutes until Dana Garner (Devin Mendiola) put a rocket in the far upper corner with 58 seconds left and then the final goal by Efrain Alvarado with 17 seconds left finished things off at 8-2.

WSA Rapids-12 Burnaby Titans-2

(Rapids Facebook) The Rapids beat new addition to the league, the Burnaby Titans 12-2 in their match last night. Coach Justin Diener elaborates, “We defended well and scored on our man up power plays, which we didn’t do last game. We also killed our man down penalty.”

The scorers were Brendan Quilici (3), Bailey Martin (1), Matt Sanchez (2), Andrew Weishaar (3), Oscar Jimenez (1), Chris Jepson (1), and Jin Dangvan (1). Assists were carried by Dangvan (3), Sanchez (1), Ferris (1), Jepson (1), Diener (2) and Quilici (2).

Diener finishes, “We had a good win to get us going; now we need to keep working hard to get ready for next week.”

The Rapids are playing the Snohomish Skyhawks at the Sportsplex Saturday night, the 14th with a 7:20pm kickoff. We will also be having a scarf drive so please to donate your unused supporters scarves and gloves to help keep people warm this winter!!

  1. Yet again we see Marian Bowers failing to do her job . From a defunct pro team , to bankruptcy , to not being able to be a reliable commissioner of the northwest division . Time for a change in operations .
