SEATTLE, WA– (club release) Seattle Reign FC today announced that Megan Rapinoe has terminated her contract with Olympique Lyon with immediate effect. Rapinoe will return to Seattle Reign FC for the start of pre-season camp on March 10 and is expected to play the entire 2014 NWSL season with Seattle.
“I am grateful to Lyon for the opportunity they provided me and I will certainly miss all of my teammates and coaches in France,” said Reign FC forward Megan Rapinoe. “I am excited to return to Seattle and play for an entire NWSL season. The league is the strongest in the world and Laura Harvey has assembled a world-class squad and created an environment in which I feel I can thrive.”
Despite playing in only 12 of Seattle’s 22 matches last season, Rapinoe earned the Golden Boot for Reign FC, tallying 5 goals in 1023 minutes. Seattle snapped a nine-game losing streak in her first match with the club last season, which kicked off a six-match unbeaten streak, including the club’s first league win on the road in Boston.
Rapinoe will return to an attacking line reshaped by a series of off-season transactions. Megan will join USWNT forward Sydney Leroux, forward Bev Goebel and forward Danielle Foxhoven to form one of the league’s most exciting and capable front lines.
“Megan is a brilliant player and a critical part of our squad,” said head coach Laura Harvey. “We’re very happy that she’ll be in Seattle for the entire 2014 season and beyond.”
