shadow-scSPOKANE, WA—The Spokane Shadow announced Monday that the re-launched men’s team will be playing at the newly-renovated Spokane Falls Community College stadium for the inaugural season of the Evergreen Premier League (EPLWA). As previously announced, the seven-game home schedule will feature five Saturday night contests and Sunday fixtures.

“We had a couple of options for a home venue, but in the end it is probably fitting that we are playing at SFCC considering it was the original home of the team for its first two seasons of existence,” said Spokane Shadow General Manager. “I think the fans will have a great time at SFCC as it provides an intimate setting amidst one of the greatest soccer stadium views in the Northwest.”

In 1995, the Shadow came to life as a provisional member of what is now known as the United Soccer Leagues’ Premier Development League (USL PDL). It played a 13-game exhibition slate in 1995 with six games at SFCC. The team would later be acquired by Brett Sports & Entertainment, making their official league debut in 1996, again at SFCC, with a league record of 12-2 to win the regular season division title. With average crowds exceeding 1,200, the team moved to Joe Albi Stadium the following year, where it remained until ceasing operations due to Albi turf concerns after the 2005 season.

The independently operated youth club, Spokane SC Shadow, continued operations and is the owners of the re-launched men’s team. The 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization features approximately 1,000 youth players throughout the community.

The facility’s overhaul is part of a larger $40 million renovation for both Community Colleges of Spokane campuses approved by the state legislature in 2009.

In the fall of 2012 the men’s and women’s soccer teams were the first to utilize the new-look facility that includes a flat 70×115 yard turf pitch that replaced an old crowned grass field. The grandstand features a facelift on the stairs and inside the press box.

The bigger changes, aside from the field, took place out of sight beneath the grandstand, where a largely wasted space previously was completed gutted. The renovation work rebuilt the soccer office – home to CCS men’s soccer coach and Shadow alum Kenny Krestian – as well as adding additional office spaces, a fully-functional classroom, revamped mini weight room, locker rooms, restrooms and more. SHADOW SCHEDULE CHANGES
The Shadow have announced two minor schedule changes affecting both the home and away matches versus Vancouver. The kick-off time for the Sunday, July 6 HOME game has been moved to 2:00 pm in the afternoon and the road game in southwest Washington has been moved to Thursday, July 10.
