Vancouver’s cardiac kids do it again, take over 1st place

YAKIMA, WA— How many times can the Vancouver Victory jolt the EPLWA with their comeback antics? At least one more, as they did it again on Saturday night in Yakima with a 2-1 stoppage time win over the Hoppers.

The win was huge for Vancouver as it propelled them into first place with 21 points after 10 matches played.

The last time Vancouver and Yakima played was in Vancouver and that one was a 5-4 thriller that the Victory also won deep into stoppage time. On Saturday YUFC led for much of the match, only to see Vancouver tie it 1-1 in the 83rd and then win it 2-1 beyond the full 90.

The Victory also scored in stoppage time to sweep the Seattle Stars two weeks ago. They had earlier beaten Seattle with a goal in the 88th minute.

Jesse Esquivel put the Hoppers ahead in the 28th minute as the 219 fans at Marquette cheered on the home side. It was Esquivel’s third goal of the season.

It stayed that way until Vancouver struck in the 83rd minute on a goal by Tyler Webster, his first for V2FC.

The cardiac kids made their comeback complete in stoppage time when Brian Gonzales scored his second goal of the year at around 91 minutes.

Vancouver is now 7-3-0 with 21 points and leads the EPLWA. Yakima falls to 3-6-1 with 10 points and drops to 6th in the table.
