College Scoreboard: Seattle Pacific teams notch wins over weekend

The Seattle Pacific University Falcons teams both posted wins over the weekend at Interbay Stadium. The WSU Cougars drew 4th-ranked Virginia on Friday and then slipped on Sunday. Check the right front page of www.goalWA.net for more college news!

SEATTLE – Ryan Brand scored his second goal of the season, and Tyler Schultz drilled the decisive penalty kick, both during the first half Saturday, as Seattle Pacific got into the men’s soccer win column by beating Metro State 2-1 at Interbay Stadium.

The Falcons (1-1-1) bounced back from Thursday’s 3-1 loss to Notre Dame de Namur as they reached the midpoint of a season-opening five-game homestand. Match photos by J. Andrew Towell.

The Falcon women ran away with thier match. Freshman forward Heather Young (Lacombe, Alberta) scored the first two goals of her collegiate career, leading the Falcons to a 5-0 romp past Nebraska-Omaha in a non-conference game at Interbay Stadium.

The two teams last met in the 2005 NCAA Division II championship game, which Nebraska-Omaha won 2-1 in overtime. The Mavericks (2-2-2) are in their first year of transitioning to Division I. Match photos by J. Andrew Towell.

Cougars draw, lose back east

The Washington State women’s soccer team battled fourth-ranked Virginia to a 0-0
draw, Friday night at the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic. Then Tishia Jewell notched a goal and an assist to lead UCF past Washington State 2-0 on Sunday.

Redhawk Women beat Portland State

Sophomore Ava Ames (Seattle, Wash.) showed veteran composure when she took Viking goalkeeper Melissa Ferguson one-on-one and sent in the game-winner to guide the Seattle University women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Portland State Sunday afternoon. With the win, SU split results at the Viking Soccer Classic and finished in second place in the weekend tournament. The victory also snapped a two-game Redhawk skid and improved their overall record to 5-3.

Vikings split with Notre Dame de Namur

The Western Washington Women won 2:1 in overtime on Saturday while the men fell by the same score in regulation.

Zags pluck Eastern Washington

CHENEY, Wash. – Emma Dolcetti scored a pair of goals, Emily Eckmann had a goal and an assist and Gonzaga University ran its winning streak to four with a 4-0 victory at Eastern Washington University on a hot, sunny Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (4-2) put together a four-match winning streak for the first time since 2007.

St. Martin’s ends tied with Northwest U

Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s got two goals in the second half to tie Northwest University and send the game into overtime but 2-2 would be the final in the non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the SMU Soccer Field.
