Today the Everett Herald reported on the crest, but their description left the winner in doubt…until now.
Mike Allended of the Everett Herald describes the new SeaWolves crest as “a shield similar to those found in crests for other teams around the world, along with two shades of blue that represent North Puget Sound.”
So I went back to the original story and looked at the four finalists. Allende’s description pretty much fits two of them. So which one won? After speaking with club owner Alex Silva, I can reveal the winner. See below.
In the Herald article Allende paraphrases SeaWolves owner Alex Silva:
Silva said the logo was based on a Haida Tribe legend that says a man found two wolf pups on a beach and raised them. When the wolves were grown, they would swim into the ocean to kill a whale for the man to eat. Eventually they killed so many whales that the meat began to spoil. When the Great Above Person saw the waste, he created a fog so the wolves could not find a whale or find their way back to shore, and they became sea wolves, which is another word for an Orca.
The new SeaWolves crest was designed by Joel DuChesne, who also designed the Kitsap Pumas crest…and the new “George” logo for www.goalWA.net!
