Bellingham United FC 2013 schedule taking shape

BELLINGHAM, Wash.— Bellingham United FC of the Pacific Coast Soccer League (PCSL) is putting the pieces in place for its sophomore season, including adding pre-season matches to its just-released PCSL home and away schedule. Below is the provisional schedule, still somewhat of a work in progress for the northern club.

The Hammers will open pre-season with a match against a Liverpool college side on March 29. BUFC will use Whatcom Community College’s Orca Field as its base for pre-season matches, which also include tilts against Western Washington, South Sound Shock FC and the Sounders U-23’s.

The PCSL campaign begins away the last weekend in April as the Hammers play on Vancouver Island against Victoria United and the Victoria Highlanders April 27 and 28.

The Hammers home opener is set for Cinco de Mayo on Sunday May 5 when the newly-admitted Estrella de Chile visit Civic Stadium.

The annual Pacific Coast Soccer League (PCSL) meetings were held November 10th in Surrey, BC. The biggest news to come out of the event for Bellingham United fans is the introduction of two new teams into the Men’s Premier Division and the exit of a first-year rival.

The Kamloops Heat (Reserve table toppers in 2012) and Estrella De Chile will compete against the Hammers in 2013 in a Premier Division. Poco City FC, a team that Bellingham had two contentious matches with in 2012, have not been invited back to the league this season. It was recently announced that the Okanagan Challenge have dropped from the PCSL this season. The Men’s Premier thus stands with nine clubs at this time.

The schedule will still get some tweaking before it becomes final. Right now the Hammers have eight home league matches scheduled and only seven away. Also, the club has marked May 19 as a “To Be Announced” home date listed as a ‘charity match.’
