RAINIER BEACH, WA—Emerald City FC didn’t need much time to erase their disappointment in Friday’s loss at SRR Issaquah. On Sunday afternoon at Rainier Beach High School the green and blue turned the tables and outscored the visiting Westside Timbers of Portland 4:0 in a WPSL Northwest Division matinee.
The Westside Timbers, an expansion team this season, had played the night before in a 2:1 win at the Spokane Shine. Going into the half on Sunday against Emerald City it was 1:0, but did not stay that way for long.
First goal sequence:
The rest of the scoring on the day involved Swede Caroline Karlsson (SBU) and (Assi IF). The 5-9 attacker scored an unassisted goal in the 70th and then turned disher as she helped Erin Craig (Montana) score the fourth and final goal in the 81st.
“We were happy that our possession resulted in some quality finishes and that we also secured the shutout this afternoon,” ECFC head coach Niki Taylor told goalWA.net. “Our movement off the ball got us into dangerous spaces and we finished our opportunities. We were also able to use our depth off the bench to run fresh players at a Westside team that had just played the night before. Caroline Karlsson came off the bench to finish a rebound off an initial save by their goalkeeper and then added an assist when she got in behind the Timbers’ backs and slotted a nice ball across the six for Erin Craig to finish.”
With the win Emerald City improves to 1-1-0 while the Westside Timbers fall to 1-1-0.
Next up for ECFC is a trip to Spokane on June 8 to face the Shine at 7:00 PM at Spokane Falls CC.
Third goal sequence: score by #4 Caroline Karlsson
