Hammers beat Victoria United, stay top of PCSL table

hammersBELLINGHAM, WA — Bellingham United FC are starting to rack up home victories to go with their stellar away form. The result is first place in the Pacific Coast Soccer League.

On Sunday June 16 the Hammers topped Victoria United FC 3:1 before a happy Father’s day audience at Civic Stadium to improve their league record to 8-2-1 with 25 standings points.

Oscar Jimenez was the engine that made the Hammers go against VUFC.

Fans received an Oscar Jimenez trading card at Sunday’s BUFC match. On his card day Oscar led the Hammers to a home win. (BUFC)

Jimenez got one of those just-before-the-break goals that deflates an opponent. He raced on a full sprint and put a ball from Chris Jepson into the Victoria goal in the 45th minute.

In the second half Jimenez played the role of provider as Kellan Brown doubled the BUFC advantage to 2:0 in the 61st minute. Brown leads the PCSL with a dozen goals.

Victoria was reduced to ten men on a red card ejection in the 79th minute. They kept battling though, and actually pulled one back in the 87th.

It was 2:1 Bellingham and hang-on time until the Hammers answered right back a minute later. Tye Hastings scored to give the home side its final 3:1 cushion.
