REDMOND, WA — Washington Crossfire had a big 2:0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps U-23’s last week in Redmond. Leading the way that night was University of Washington Husky sophomore midfielder James Moberg.
The club match report from that night says “The Crossfire’s dominant performance was in part thanks to Moberg, who had a man of the match performance. He was all over the pitch, challenging for balls and troubling the Vancouver defense.”
For his skilled match-winner and overall performance against Vancouver James Moberg is the goalWA.net Washington PDL Player of the Week.
The moment of the match, and the eventual match winner, came for Crossfire as player-coach Nik Besagno found Moberg on a quick counter off of a Vancouver corner kick.
Washington recovered the ball and played it up to Besagno, who sprung Moberg with a ball over the top. Moberg ran onto the ball and headed it down to his feet before slotting it into far post. It was a well-executed goal that showed Moberg’s speed and ball control skills.
Moberg was named to the College Sports Madness All Pac-12 second team as a freshman.
“James is a two-way midfielder with the ability to both unlock defenses with clever passes in the attacking half of the field [as well as] buckle down play right in front of the back four in a more defensive role,” Washington head coach Jamie Clark says of the versatile player. “He has a great feel for the game and was one of the top midfielders coming out of high school on the west coast.”
