Megan Rapinoe is a midfielder on the US Women’s National Team. Rapinoe was allocated to Reign FC by the NWSL in January 2013, but delayed her participation in the new league as she had already signed to play for Olympique Lyonnais for the remainder of their season, which ended June 8. During her time at Lyon Rapinoe helped the club win the league, the league cup and she started in the Champions League final, which Lyon ultimately lost 0-1 to Vfl Wolfsburg. As a senior member of the US Women’s National Team Rapinoe has managed 72 caps, including starts in all six matches in the 2012 Olympics, during which she scored 3 goals and delivered 4 assists, helping lead the team to a gold medal. Rapinoe previously played in the WPS with the Chicago Red Stars, Philadelphia Independence and magicJack.

“Megan is a world-class talent that would make a positive impact on any club in the world,” said Laura Harvey, head coach and general manger of Seattle Reign FC. “Megan’s experience with the US Women’s National Team and at Lyon will provide our club with a much-needed infusion of talent and experience.”

Rapinoe will join up with Reign FC on Friday, June 21, immediately after she is released from national team duty. It is expected that Megan’s first home appearance will be at the June 29 match against the Chicago Red Stars.

Stephanie Cox is a gold medal-winning defender from the US Women’s National Team. Cox has been signed and, pending medical clearance, will be added to the Reign FC roster before the end of June; she is expected to make her debut at the June 29 home match against Chicago.

Stephanie first played with the US Women’s National Team in 2006 and won a gold medal with the squad at the 2008 Olympics in China. Cox began her club career with the Los Angles Sol of the WPS in 2009. She started 20 matches for the Sol, helping the club finish as runners-up in the first WPS championship match. After the Sol disbanded at the end of the 2009 season Cox was selected by the Boston Breakers where she played in the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

“Steph will bring leadership and top-level experience to our back line,” noted Harvey. “She has demonstrated that she can consistently compete at the highest levels, which should help us significantly strengthen our defense as we move into the second half of the season.”

Kennya Cordner is a forward for the Trinidad and Tobago WNT and, prior to signing with Reign FC, was a member of the Reign FC Reserves. In her first four matches with Reign FC Reserves this season Kennya scored three goals. Cordner was called up to play in the Reign FC friendly match against the Haitian Women’s National Team on June 2; she scored a goal in the 6-0 victory for Reign FC.

Cordner made her international debut at 15 and is the leading scorer for the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s National Team. In July 2011, in an Olympic qualifying match, Cordner scored 9 goals against Dominica, leading her club to a 15-1 victory.

“At every level she has played Kennya has shown she knows how to find the net,” said Head Coach Laura Harvey. “We are clearly a club that is in need of a player who can consistently deliver goals, so we are excited to see the impact Kennya can have in the NWSL.”

Kennya has been added to the roster pending medical clearance and will make her debut with the squad as soon her visa has been approved.

Adding Rapinoe and Cordner to the Reign FC roster necessitated the waiving of two current members of the Reign FC squad—forward Tiffany Cameron and midfielder Lyndsey Patterson. Cameron and Patterson will be available to other NWSL via the waiver process for until 3pm PT on Thursday, after which they will become free agents and are free to sign with any club. Further changes to the roster will be required with Stephanie Cox is added to the active roster later this month.

“Lyndsey and Tiffany have been with the club from our earliest training sessions in Japan, which made our decision incredibly difficult,” said Laura Harvey. “Both Lyndsey and Tiffany are extremely hard workers, great teammates and very talented players. We are hopeful they find another opportunity to play in the NWSL.”

Reign FC will hit the east coast for two games this week. First up is a match against the Western New York Flash on Sunday, June 23, which will be followed up by a mid-week game on Wednesday, June 26 against the Boston Breakers. Reign FC will return home to the Moda Health Pitch at Starfire Stadium for a match against the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday, June 29.
