Two matches involving Premier Development League teams from the state of Washington were played on Friday night June 28th. In Edmonds WA the North Sound SeaWolves and Kitsap Pumas played to a wild 3:3 draw. In Vancouver WA the home-standing Portland Timbers U-23 were upset 3:2 by Redmond’s Washington Crossfire.
The SeaWolves-Pumas match was each club’s third effort in the 2013 Ruffneck Cup for bragging rights in Puget Sound. Kitsap is in second place with five points on a win and two draws. The SeaWolves are in third place with four points on an even 1-1-1 record.
North Sound SeaWolves 3:3 Kitsap Pumas
Entering the game in last place in the Premier Development League’s Northwest Division, North Sound (1-7-2) took a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by Bradley Jacobson in the 14th minute and Zach Hammond in the 23rd minute.
Kitsap responded with three goals in the first 20 minutes in the second half after North Sound’s goalkeeper received a red card, putting the SeaWolves down a man.
Neil Shaffer scored on a penalty kick in the 58th minute, Kasy Kiarash converted a one-timer from close range in the 62nd minute, and Ben Truax scored on a deflected goal in the 66th minute to give Kitsap a 3-2 lead.
Yet the Pumas couldn’t make the lead stand as North Sound’s Brady Ballew converted a penalty kick in the 77th minute.

Portland Timbers U-23 2:3 Washington Crossfire
Over 2,000 fans showed up at Doc Harris Stadium in Camas, WA to see Washington Crossfire upset the second-place Portland Timbers U-23’s 3:2. (Box score)
Christian Roldan scored in the 41st and 64th minutes to stake Crossfire to a 2-nil advantage. The Timbers cut it to 2:1 in the 74th before the Washington lead grew back to two at 3:1 in the 88th minute on an Ian Adams goal. Portland made it close with a goal in the 90th.
It was a big loss for the Timbers, who fell to 6-2-2 on the season and are now three points behind first-place Victoria after even matches (ten) played.
Crossfire improved to 3-5-1 and moved up to fifth place.
