DUVALL, WA — AC Seattle, a brand new team stocked with Italian players, has won the WPSL Northwest Conference Tournament after a 3:1 win over the Seattle Reign FC Reserves of Issaquah Sunday night at Cedarcrest High School.
Romina Pinna scored two of the three AC Seattle goals. The match-winner came from Elisa Colle on a backwards header that looped in just under the Issaquah crossbar.
Pinna gave AC Seattle a 1:0 lead in the 13th minute. Slawson made it 2:0 in the 42nd. Pinna tacked on another to make it 3:0 in the 58th. All Issaquah could muster was a free kick conversion in added time that dipped neatly in for Joanna Houplin.
On Saturday night AC Seattle beat Tualatin Hills United to advance to the Conference Final. Issaquah topped Eugene Metro Azul.
During the regular season the two clubs played two entertaining and contentious matches. Sunday night’s final score in Duvall might surprise a few.
It appears there is a growing rivalry here. Just before the match AC Seattle’s manager posted that the Reign Reserves had failed to supply the visiting team with water and ice.
The Northwest Champion will now travel to Sacramento on July 20 and 21 to face the winners from the Big Sky-North, Pacific-North, and Pacific-South divisions for the Regional Championship.
