Washington’s five USL clubs all miss playoffs for first time in seven years

georgebigwhiteIt wasn’t a very good year for United Soccer Leagues teams in the state of Washington, at least by the measure of making  the playoffs.

On Sunday when the Sounders Women fell 2:0 at the Bay Area Breeze, our state’s best chance at a USL post-season was dashed in the W-League.

USL-UnitedSoccerLeaguesMeanwhile on Sunday the Vancouver Whitecaps U23’s edged Washington Crossfire 1:0 in BC to make it official: the four PDL clubs from Washington make up the “bottom four” in the Northwest Division for 2013, finishing 4-5-6-7 and out of the playoffs. The PDL NW was won by the Victoria Highlanders. The Timbers U23’s are second and the Whitecaps U23’s are third.

It’s the first time since 2006 that Washington hasn’t produced a PDL playoff club. For the Sounders Women, it’s their first playoff miss since 2010.

    • We had a new coach at the end of last season who returned with a core of players. To that he added some amazing talent including Brett Levis who has been a revelation and also some professional experience in Blair Sturrock an ex-pro from Scotland who has shown the young guys what being a pro looks like.
