Adam has been a part of the Puget Sound soccer scene for a few years, at one point involved with the North Sound SeaWolves and Washington Crossfire. The Englishman has high-level playing experience in England.
“Our Mission Statement gives the reader a good idea of what the club is all about,” Nowland tells goalWA.net. “Our club motto is ‘Together Each Achieves More’.”
In a crowded soccer marketplace, Nowland wants to highlight the differences. “The main message I want to convey is that NPSA is different from your average youth soccer club. Players that join our club will be provided with the best possible environment to develop their skills, understanding and passion for the game.”
To give players and parents a taste of what they offer, NPSA is having a ‘free December’ event.
“We will be hosting free training sessions in December,” says Nowland, “as this will give the parents and the players the ideal opportunity to see what we’re all about at no commitment or cost to them.”
MLS goalkeeper Doug Herrick is the Academy Director of Goalkeeping. Ian Weinberg formerly with the Tacoma Stars is the NPSA Director of Fitness.
More about NPSA
NPSA is the new youth soccer organization on the Eastside. We will be based in Kirkland and our program offers the personal attention and focused, professional coaching that can be lost in the bigger clubs.
One of the biggest differences at NPSA is that all our teams will follow a unified coaching curriculum. This curriculum is based upon an English style academy program but is also in line with the US Soccer Coaching guidelines. Our teams, at whatever level and age group, will be recognizable by the style of soccer they play and their approach to the game. There will be a clear pattern all the way through the club from the youngest team to the oldest so there is no transitional period when a team or player moves up an age group or to a different coach within our organization. For example, our U8 teams will play in a formation that allows for a simple transition from 8v8 to 9v9 to 11v11 and the training drills and methods will effectively be the same across the board with an increase in difficulty & content the older and/or more skilled the players become.
We recognize that all players are not the same in terms of development, commitment level and speed of learning so the programs we offer reflect this. We have a Premier program for U11+ which is a year round commitment and is aimed at the serious player. A Select Program for U11+ which is seasonal and doesn’t demand as much from the individual but still requires regular attendance to training and games. A Developmental Program for U8-U10 which provides the players with the fundamentals of the game and the basic techniques they will need to progress in an organized and disciplined environment. And our Jr Academy for U6-U7 is the perfect environment to develop the player’s passion for the game whilst teaching them basic mechanics and ball control.
Alongside our English Style Academy Training Program, we provide a Goalkeeping program which will be directed by professional MLS GK Doug Herrick and will give our young, aspiring goalkeepers all the tools and techniques they need to learn their craft. Doug is a Guam International and currently trains with the Seattle Sounders. Our players are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work with and learn from him.
NPSA offers a wide range of programs to help our players with every aspect of the game one of which is the fitness side. For this we have alligned ourselves with IanFitness. The founder of IanFitness is an ex-professional soccer player who understands the needs of youth players in the modern game and his expertise will be a big asset to our organization.
