The Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL) Northwest is apparently down to ten teams after the Central Oregon Steelheaders suddenly pulled out from the indoor circuit. On their Facebook page South Sound Shock posted about “a last minute notice from the Central Oregon Steelheaders pull out of the PASL NW.”
The development has cancelled two Saturday matches in the greater Tacoma area. The Steelheaders were scheduled to play South Sound on Saturday December 7 at 2 PM in Gig Harbor, and then cross the Narrows Bridge to Tacoma to play the Galaxy at 7 PM. Instead, the Galaxy and Shock will meet at 2 PM at the Gig Harbor Soccer Center in an “exhibition” match.
The Shock posted: “We will now be playing an exhibition game against the Tacoma Galaxy in place of the Steelheaders on December 7 at 2 pm at Gig Harbor Soccer Center. Please make sure to come out and support, it should be a great game. We appreciate the Galaxy making this work for us so we can keep our home game in this unfortunate set of circumstances.”
The PASL NW South Division is thus down to four teams, while the North remains at six. The Steelheaders’ eight matches will have to be dealt with. Will the league shuffle the divisions? It seems more likely that they will just leave the South at four and either play a six-match schedule or pick the closest team for each to add a make-up match.
UPDATE: The league is hoping to bring in a new club to take over Central Oregon’s schedule. They apparently have a couple of candidates that might work. Stay tuned.
Despite the two cancelled matches, the PASL NW does have four matches on tap for December 7. See schedule here.
