Spokane Shadow EPLWA Schedule unveiled

Return of Shadow men’s team begins with two home games in early May

SPOKANE, WA — (club release) The Spokane Shadow, in conjunction with the newly-created Evergreen Premier League’s disclosure of the full league schedule, unveiled the team’s 2014 schedule Sunday evening, announcing that the team will open their inaugural campaign with a pair of home games versus Bellingham and Yakima.

“Putting the very first schedule together for a new league with a number of brand new teams was a lot of work, but I think things worked out well for us in the end in regards to our home slate,” said Shadow General Manager Gerald Barnhart. “After making a number of changes, the final version has a nice mix of games throughout the summer for our fans to enjoy while also being mindful of other events in the greater Spokane community.”

After playing host to Bellingham May 3 and Yakima on May 10, the Shadow will play three consecutive on the road before finishing out the month of May at home against WestSound FC of Bremerton on the 31st.

The Shadow have only one home game in June, facing South Sound FC June 21, as they spend the first two weeks on the road and are idle during Hoopfest weekend. The Victory of Vancouver, Wash. then visit July 6 in the first of only two Sunday games for the Shadow at home.

Spokane finishes the season with a pair of doubleheaders, taking to the road to face Yakima and Vancouver before a big finish at home against Seattle and Wenatchee July 19 and 20.

The home venue for the Shadow is expected to be finalized and announced in the coming weeks as discussions continue between the club and managers of the potential host facilities.

The EPLWA schedule kicks off the final weekend of April with six of the eight clubs in action while the Shadow and Wenatchee are idle.

In addition to the official league schedule, the Shadow are also exploring the addition of a series of friendlies this season, including women’s friendlies as they prepare for the potential launch of a women’s team in 2015.

“This team will be a representation of the region and in doing so we want to bring Shadow soccer directly to fans in North Idaho, and also want to incorporate similar teams that exist in Montana that are looking to further their programs with competitive games against quality opponents,” said Barnhart.

“Additionally, we are dedicated to continuing a women’s soccer presence in Spokane, especially considering the level of talent in the area and the dedication many players have put in over the past few years playing in the WPSL. In doing so, we are looking to use a few friendlies this year to keep momentum moving toward 2015, whether it be WPSL or perhaps a new EPLWA-type league if things go well in the debut of the men’s league.”

The EPLWA schedule could see some slight adjustments in the future, including for the Shadow.

“Our home slate turned out great and likely will not see any changes other than maybe shifting a game by a day if needed, but we are still in discussions in regards to simplifying our road schedule and hope to have resolutions to our needs soon,” said Barnhart. “Our fellow teams and league management have been fantastic thus far in working with us, and we look forward to travelling throughout the state this summer.”
