SEATTLE, WA — The day after the Sounders make their 2014 MLS debut at CenturyLink Field they will send a group of players over to Montlake to take on the Washington Huskies. UW head coach Jamie Clark is eager to see how his Dawgs stack up against players off of an MLS roster.
The Sounders will field a match-day 18 against Sporting KC, but Clark expects playing time on Sunday night from Sounders who don’t see action on Saturday.
“It’s the day after the Sounders opener so they will (likely) play all the guys on the first team roster that don’t get in that game.”
Clark says Sounders fans will be just as interested in the match as Husky fans are.
“Besides wanting our guys to play in front of a great atmosphere, what makes the game really cool is it’s the first chance for the Sounders to see all the new players (homegrown signings and draft picks etc.)”
The Washington roster features six players out of the Sounders Academy system.
The Huskies are at the beginning of their spring season after the best post-season NCAA run in school history last year. Washington beat the Portland Pilots 2:0 over the weekend.
The match starts at 6 PM at Husky Soccer Field. Tickets are $5 – cash only.
