NEW JERSEY– Seattle Reign FC (8-0-2, 26 pts) remain unbeaten following their 3-1 victory over Sky Blue FC (2-5-4, 10 pts) on Sunday, June 1 at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J.

Nahomi “Naho” Kawasumi, in her first game back with Reign FC after missing the last four matches while with the Japanese national team for the AFC Women’s Asia Cup, scored two goals to propel Seattle in the win, extending the team’s unbeaten streak to ten games.

After trading possession evenly through the first half — with each team taking five shots — Sky Blue FC got on the board first in the 42nd minute, on a goal by midfielder Katy Freels from beyond the box, set up by forward Nanase Kiryu.

Despite giving up the first goal for the third straight game, Reign FC erupted for three second-half goals, the first coming in the 50th minute after forward Beverly Goebel beat her defender to find the feet of a wide open Kawasumi for the equalizer.

Just three minutes later, Scottish international Kim Little scored her league-leading ninth goal off a free kick to the far post to give Seattle the lead, after Goebel was fouled just outside the box.

In the 74th minute, Kawasumi scored her second goal courtesy of a pass from Little that eluded Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Brittany Cameron, allowing Naho to simply dribble it over the goal line.

On the defensive end, U.S. Women’s National Team keeper Hope Solo made seven saves, and is now tied for fifth in the NWSL with 32.

With the victory, Reign FC remains in first place in the NWSL standings with 26 points, followed by the Chicago Red Stars with 19, and FC Kansas City with 15.

Reign FC now returns home to take on the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday, June 7 at the Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. (PT) with a live, high-definition webstream available at YouTube.com/NWSL.
