TUKWILA, WA – Pacific Northwest Soccer Club (“PacNW Soccer Club”) announced today that Michael Morris is leaving the club to join the Sounders FC Academy coaching staff. Morris had previously been one of the primary coaches for PacNW’s Junior Academy program (U8 & U9). “Mike has been with the club for a number of years, and he has been a tremendous asset to the growth of PacNW Soccer Club,” said PacNW Technical Director Leighton O’Brien. “We will miss him but this is a great opportunity for Mike to join the Sounders Academy coaching staff,” said O’Brien. “I’ve had a great run with PacNW Soccer Club the past few years,” said Morris. “I truly believe that they are focused on player development and teaching kids how to play soccer ‘the right way,’” he added. “I am grateful for the experience to have coached with PacNW but I am excited to begin working with the Sounders Academy,” said Morris.

Taking Morris’ spot with the Junior Academy program will be Neil O’Brien, who previously assisted the club in a volunteer capacity. “Neil is a young, up-and-coming coach and this will be a good opportunity to train some of our youngest players,” said Eugene Poublon, Director of the PacNW Junior Academy. O’Brien has played on several Irish youth national teams as well as several high-level club teams in Ireland. “Neil understands our club’s philosophy of play and will emphasize the technical training that our Junior Academy players need to receive. I am looking forward to having Neil join the Junior Academy coaching staff,” said Poublon.

In reflecting on this transition, Leighton O’Brien noted, “It’s never easy to lose a coach, especially one the caliber of Mike Morris, but we are excited for him and wish him all the best with Sounders Academy. Neil brings a great energy to our club and will do a good job working with our Junior Academy players.”

  1. First of all I want to say superb blog! I had a quick question which I’d like
to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to know how you
center yourself and clear your mind before writing. I have
had difficulty clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out
there. I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally
wasted simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or tips?
    Kudos!
