Washington State blanked visiting Montana 2-0 at Lower Soccer Field, Aug. 31…sophomore Kailiana Johnson scored a goal and added an assist…freshman Jordan Branch notched her first-collegiate goal in her first-collegiate start.


Cougar Head Coach Steve Nugent is in his first year at Washington State, and his fourth year overall as a head coach…owns 2-0-1 record with the Cougars and 32-23-7 overall…Nugent was the mentor at UNC Greensboro from 2011-13.


Washington State has recorded three-straight shutouts this season and a school-record six-consecutive clean sheets dating back to last season…Cougars have not given up a goal in a school-record 652:47…shutout minutes, all with redshirt senior Gurveen Clair at goalkeeper, is the longest active streak in the nation…one of three teams (UCLA and Stanford) in the Pac-12 that has yet to concede a goal in 2014.


Washington State has made three-straight NCAA Championship appearances, a first for the program…Cougars have made five trips to the NCAA postseason in the last six years, one of 28 schools nationally to accomplish the feat…Cougars have advanced to the second round twice in that span…last year, Washington State was eliminated by Illinois in the first round on penalty kicks to finish 14-3-4.

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Gurveen Clair, junior Kourtney Guetlein and senior forward Jocelyn Jeffers are each ranked in career categories at Washington State…Clair is first in goals against average (0.68), save percentage (83.3), shutouts (27), wins (36)…also ranked in goalkeeper matches played (second, 63), goalkeeper matches started (second, 60), goalkeeper minutes (second, 5,557), saves (fourth, 210)…Guetlein is the school record holder for assists per game (0.32) and tied for ninth in assists (13)…Jeffers is tied for eighth in game-winning goals (6), tied for ninth in goals (17) and tied for 10th with 44 points.


Four Cougars appear among the conference leaders this week…redshirt senior goalkeeper Gurveen Clair is tied for first with a 0.00 goals against average, second with 15 saves and tied for second with three shutouts…senior Jocelyn Jeffers is tied for fifth in shots per game (3.67) and tied for seventh in shots (11)…sophomore Kailiana Johnson it tied for first in game-winning goals (2), tied for third in goals (2), goals per game (0.67) and points per game (1.67) and tied for fifth in points (5)…junior Cara Wegner is tied for first in assists (3) and assists per game (1.00).


Cougars and Waves have split four matches…Washington State won 1-0 in Waipahu, Hawaii during the 2010 season, the last time the teams met…Pepperdine is No. 11 in the NSCAA poll and No. 13 according to Soccer America…Washington State has won all five meetings with Hawaii…Cougars posted road victories in 2010 (3-0) and 2011 (3-1)…won last matchup 2-0 in 2012 at home.
