SHORELINE, WA— (written for goalWA by Highline team personnel) The Highline Community College Thunderbirds Men played some irresistible soccer as they went on to beat the Shoreline Community College Dolphins with a final score line of 4-1.
The Thunderbirds got started early in the game as a wonderfully weighted long ball found Isidro Prado-Huerta on the right flank. Isidro rounded two defenders before being chopped down in the box. The ref displayed zero hesitation when she pointed to the spot. Freshman Brandon Madsen stepped up and made no mistake as he buried the ball in the back of the net on the 5 min mark.
The next Tbird goal resulted from some brilliant counter-attacking play by the Highline midfield. The Dolphins got caught in possession in their own half and the ball fell to Madsen who spotted the smart run by Kenny Sweet. Brandon played a beautifully weighted reverse through ball allowing Sweet to take a touch and dispatch a very composed finish into the bottom right corner of the net.
Highline continued to press but despite several chances was unable to find a third goal in the first half. Shoreline’s found their stride late in the half. If not for some resolute defending and a stellar reactionary save by Thunderbird goalkeeper Grayson Raffensperger Shoreline might have halved the deficit.

Highline again came out strong in the second half looking to kill the game off. Their persistence was rewarded in the 49th minute with a third goal. Isidro collected the ball on the right flank just outside the Dolphin penalty area and fired a low shot through traffic. Shoreline goalkeeper Kamal Gulaliyev did well to save the initial shot, but was unable to hold it. Madsen found himself in the right spot again to fire home the elusive third goal from close range for the Thunderbirds.
The game looked to be done at that point if not for a stunning goal for the Dolphins. Adrian Hernandez won possession 40 yards from the Highline goal in the center of the field and with his second touch unleashed an absolute bomb into the upper left corner of the Thunderbird net. An easy contender for goal of the season come the end of the year. Shoreline looked buoyed by the goal and pressed Highline to find a way back into the match.
However in the 79th minute the result was put beyond doubt. Highline would again display a slick counter attacking move ending with Kenny playing a perfectly weighted through ball that allowed Isidro to calmly place the ball beyond an onrushing Kamal from16 yards out. The fourth goal effectively killed the game off and sent all three points home with theThunderbirds.
This results places Highline in second place in the Western Division of the NWAC with a big divisional week coming up. Highline will first travel to Olympic College on 9/27 to face a very tough Ranger team at 2:15pm. The Thunderbirds will then return home for what is consistently the most entertaining and highest quality match in the NWAC, Highline versus Peninsula. The game will take place at Starfire on 9/29 at 3pm.
