Alex Roldan (Pico Rivera, Calif.), on a long cross by Jeff Rose (Carmichael, Calif.), slotted the ball into the middle of the net as the Oregon State keeper shifted left to score what would be the game-winner in the 35th minute. The game-winning goal marked Roldan’s first career goal.
“Jeff played a fantastic ball to Alex, who had great composure for a freshman in scoring the goal,” said head coach Pete Fewing on the school website. “We dealt with a lot of pressure and Oregon State is a good team with a good record. I like when we can win 1-0 with that kind of pressure; those are the kinds of games that test you. It was a good win and it was fun to play Oregon State, a ranked team, in front of a big crowd tonight.”
The win marked the second straight home win vs. the Beavers as the Redhawks came out on top in the last matchup between the two at Championship Field. On Sept. 19, 2009, SU won, 1-0, in dramatic fashion in overtime on a header goal by Demaci Roussos.
Seattle U finishes the weekend hosting Gonzaga on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. in a doubleheader with the women’s team, who hosts Utah Valley at 12 noon in their Western Athletic Conference opener.
