Redhawk Men tally weekend sweep ahead of hosting WAC Tournament

On Friday the Redhawks beat Houston Baptist 3-1.
“We got our eighth shutout of the season with three goals, and they were great goals,” said head coach Pete Fewing. “Our free kicks were very on point today and we got good service into the box. Hamza [Haddadi] had his fourth goal in four games and Josh Greene got his first career goal, which is exciting. Shane Haworth did a fantastic jobin goal with two big saves.

We’re getting better, which is nice to see, and we were able to play a lot of guys.Nick Prasad (Surrey, B.C.) would score the game-winner in just the second minute off an assist by Hamza Haddadi (Shoreline, Wash.) following Ian Hines-Ike’s (Littleton, Colo.) corner kick.Nineteen minutes later, in the 21st minute, Haddadi would head the ball in himself to give the Redhawks a 2-0 advantage, again off a Hines-Ike corner kick. The goal marked four goals in the last four matches for Haddadi.

With a two goal advantage at half, Josh Greene (Hamilton, New Zealand) scored his first career goal, putting the ball straight into the left back of the net off a cross by Cameron Rohani (Cartersville, Ga.).

In the final minutes of the match, Chijoke Akujuobi had one of Incarnate Word’s best scoring opportunities but SU keeper Shane Haworth (Puyallup, Wash.) came up with a shutout-preserving save followed by a key team save.

Medo Youssef (Eden Prairie, Minn.) saw his first collegiate action while Brady Ballew (Marysville, Wash.) led all players on the field with four shots. SU outshot UIW, 17-14.

In goal, Kieran O’Boyle allowed all three goals, making three saves, while Haworth made six saves in the complete game shutout, the team’s eighth of the season.

The Redhawks will close the regular season in California at San Jose State on Friday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. and Bakersfield on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.
